It is estimated that more than one million people attended the 30th anniversary of the Toronto Gay Pride Parade. Add thousands of supporting businesses, the local politicians and authorities and you get one giant vibrant party with extravagant costumes, people high on happiness and acceptance; an event where participants dare to display their difference while spectators dare to respond with spontaneity. Symbiosis. Individual responses to individual displays: the stereotypes are broken, at least for one day. This is the liberation.
